DEW Magazine #19 Model Issue Pre-Spring 2016: Our tribute to question the future of fashion stars.

”That is, for now, not possible, not least because the advertising industry is very much taken nowadays by popstars and actresses. Supermodels like we once were don’t exist any more.”  – Claudia Schiffer

The world’s moving fast, and we’re all plugged in! So what better time to rub our crystal ball and ask what is the future of fashion, and who are our future fashion stars? The term supermodel that world-widely known has slowly shifted to matter of “too” commercial. The different point of view and feel of fashion model nowadays has becoming a “followers” and “fame” based personality rather than the mean of model itself, the perfect persona that showcase clothes, period. This changes have made a little bit curiosity of where it went and going to go in fashion industry, was it a trend development after the anorexic and all petite issues by the late 1990’s or was it the Hollywood speaking? Speaking about visual presentation from fashion industry, it is a little sad to see the power of 80’s-90’s model that always successful on presenting the brand image like Versace, CK, Christian Dior, Chanel and even Guess? turning into a concept selling eye candy and “social media material” quality offers. In the last years of 2000’s, the pendulum of limelight was still agreed to shine on several bright models like Lara Stone, and Sasha Pivovarova but the light has died that most of them is now enjoying motherhood. The changed system of how fashion brands or designers has now depending on the models personality rather than hiring them to embody is a poor downgrade, isn’t it? The social technology impact to be blamed? So it is true that the supermodel era is dead. At DEW, we believe in the power of the individual and those brave enough to walk apart from the crowd to challenge the status quo. To pay tribute on all the supermodels that changes the world of fashion, DEW invites every contributors to create a visual presentation that involves “collaboration” that shows strength of each as a collaborator.
