It was clear that the Olsen sisters persevered on their sartorial reign with their Fall/Winter 2014 collection in the runways of New York Fashion Week. The whole show was a sartorial oxymoron fused with a comical animation reminiscing the fleecy characters of Where The Wild Things Are; a mature yet young sense of breathing on oversized fiestas for the upcoming chilly season. The fashion world has always had a desirable infatuation for chunky knitwear and The Row has presented that desire to swoon that over this time round. It was a subtle yet luxurious take on winter wear, hinted with the Olsen sisters’ earlier sense of fashion of what had been “hobo-chic-esque” and andryogynous. They had brushed aside any of their past obsession of audacious embellishments and had played with volumes and proportions. Lovers of both volume and simplicity were unable to keep up with all the awe.

With their supply of their horde of double-face cashmere, monochromatic pieces were played into eccentric silhouettes and shapes and elegantly oversized sleeveless maxi dresses were contrasted with structured necklines to tie the garments in one. The first three looks were already voluminous gargantuan, massive fur cashmere sweaters, all consist of turtlenecks so amplified, it resembled nothing but a floating woolen fabric with no model. Fuzzy cashmere tops came with matching skirts and sweeping coats with potato-sack midi skirts. And the most important, the big trapeze coats and the softly tinted blanket shawls that seemed as if they were floating gracefully. Needless to say, the dreamiest factor was the color of gray, cream, soft brown, and muted burgundy to give an understating elegance. Looks were finished with crocodile brogues and man-like oxford shoes with scrunched socks as an androgynous touch.

Ladies who fancy The Row will not be able to keep their hands off till the wintry season with these world’s finest fabrics. It was a sartorial shock to the fashion week, as the most luxurious derive from the stillness and selflessness of the garments, and with these cool and modern creations of the twins, it surely will keep the season all cozied up. What is winter anymore with The Row? (Text Nadilla Sari Ratman)
