  • Alexander Wang Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang splashed his name all over his Spring 2014 collection. It was emblazoned or punched out in repeated motifs on dresses, tops, opera gloves, waistbands, leather coats and pleated skirts, but before you think tacky, the lesson in branding looked fantastic.

Menswear was the jumping-off point for the collection, with classic suiting being used for everything from spaghetti-strapped slip dresses to the waistbands of leather shorts. Men’s pajamas popped up in sexy shorts looks with plenty of stomach exposed. The most memorable piece was a sheer sweater with a white stripe across the chest with the Parental Advisory stamp on it; it fit in perfectly with the sportswear-inspired collection. The designer also cleverly embedded his name in saucy knits, tough laser cut leather kilt dresses and crisp poplin shirts.

Wang has proved once again that he can play with the big boys in his own, subversive, post-modern porn culture way. And no doubt, this crop of name-branded merch will sell like cronuts.
