Foals Release ‘The Runner’: An Ode to Self-Reflection and Climate Change. With a mesmerising, calling-to-action clip accompanying their new heavy song, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2 is coming out this month.

Foals’ sixth studio LP Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2, an album self-produced by the band, is finishing up the works and arriving shortly, and the band have recently released their latest sneak peek of the album with a heavy track titled “The Runner”. This new single is, according to frontman Yannis Philippakis, “a call to find a sense of purpose and perseverance despite the odds and despite the troubles we may find inside or outside of ourselves”. The song starts off loud and proud, and is impossible to not bop your head along to. It’s set in “the aftermath of the landscape described in the final songs of Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1”, picking up where the last record left off.

True to the single’s title, the dark, dimly lit music video for “The Runner” shows Philippakis running for his life from his doppelganger, sprinting through the sea, vast fields, and crashing through paintings. The video seems to be an ode to self-reflection and possibly nods at climate change as a spreading wildfire rages through forests and mountains toward the end.

In an interview with NME, Philippakis and drummer Jack Bevan talks about what to expect from this new record. “I listened to it from start to finish when we had it mastered and it’s a fucking bangsman,” said Bevan. “It is a proper banger. I just don’t think that people will expect that of ‘Part 2’. To me, as a cynical bastard, if someone was going to put out an album in two parts then you’d top-load it on the first one and then have all the boring stuff on the second one. Actually, we’ve flip-reversed it.”

Alluding to the recently shared tracks prior to the release of Part 2, Bevan added: “We’ve got maybe the biggest single that we’ve ever made maybe as the lead single, then there’s another one that I forgot about that’s maybe even bigger.”

Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2 comes out on October 18, 2019.
