DEW Magazine #32 The Image and Perception Issue Summer 2019. In this issue, we investigate the true impact technology has placed on our image and perceptions today. However, some questions remain. Are these images, the perceptions created through the use of social media as an information source, considered trustworthy?

With new communication technologies taking over the world, we become more influenced by what we see online on a daily basis, than from taking the usual time-honoured read-and-research to carefully select what types of information we absord. Social media is one such technology that has been increased usage as an information source, and interestingly, to some, it has become the ONLY source.

In this issue, we investigate the true impact technology has placed on our image and perceptions today. However, some questions remain. Are these images, the perceptions created through the use of social media as an information source, considered trustworthy? How do people assess the source credibility of this information? Are the numbers of Instagram likes or Facebook shares or YouTube comments simply illusionary deceptions of validity, or are they clear indicators of the legitimacy and accuracy of the information shared?

It’s reassuring to discover that most of us still believe, “It’s who says what in which channel to whom with what effect that counts”, and ensure the information sources are based on validity. As we move toward a new world order, more and more people are careful when addressing news and saying “no” to viral things with unclear sources of information, and that’s the most positive affirmation.
