Saint Laurent Fall 2017 RTW

Leather, sequins, suede and a youthful face for Saint Laurent Fall 2017 RTW. Anthony Vaccarello has surely reinforced the thin boundaries between femininity and masculinity.

The latest collection offered by Anthony Vaccarello opened the night for Paris fashion week as models donned in very provocative and sleek wears – a Vaccarello signature. The show had mixed both men and women’s, showcasing looks as models walked on the courtyard of Saint Laurent’s restored HQ in central Paris. Steering away from the typical grungy and edgy baby doll feminine Saint Laurent looks, the collection screams glam and rock-and-roll ready attitude that may have somewhat challenged gender norms and conventions.

A mix of everything bold, alpha and accentuated, the dark palettes of grey and black served as an undertone to the entire collection. Whereas metallic highlights and accentuated shoulders added a masculine feel to the pieces including the utilitarian-like outerwear. High slits on womenswear particularly the dresses gave the collection a more assured, appealing and definitely alpha-female strong look. Aside from these fearless and striking glam look that are smeared throughout, the collection features motifs of metallic sequins, ruffles, leather and hints of suede. Boyish and lazy slouched knee-length leather booths were also seen in the collection where the pieces were adorned by sparkly crystals to give it an entwining masculine and feminine feel.

Featuring both the male and female models and looks for this latest collection, Vaccarello has surely stepped up his can-do attitude in reinforcing the thin boundaries between femininity and masculinity. The entire collection has definitely showcased such interplay. (Text Beata Primana)
